Aluminium
Roof Lanterns

Made to measure, slim bars, maximum natural light. Bespoke aluminium roof lanterns and flat rooflights fitted across Cheam, Sutton and Surrey.

The Feature That
Changes a Room

A roof lantern transforms what would otherwise be a dark rear extension into a room filled with natural light throughout the day. Unlike a window on a wall, the overhead light from a roof lantern reaches deep into the space — changing the way the room feels at every hour.

We supply and fit made-to-measure aluminium roof lanterns to any flat-roof extension. Every installation is weather-tight on completion — no leaks, no ongoing sealing required, backed by our 10-year written guarantee.

Measured and manufactured to your exact opening dimensions

Bar profile and ridge height proportioned to the lantern size

All weatherproofing completed to a guaranteed standard

How We Do It

Three Things We
Get Right Every Time

Made to Your Exact Opening

Roof lanterns are manufactured to any size — there is no standard size, because every flat-roof opening is different. We measure your opening precisely, specify the ridge height and bar configuration for the scale of the lantern, and order to your exact dimensions. The result is a lantern that fits perfectly and never requires remedial sealing.

  • Bespoke to any opening size — no standard dimensions
  • Ridge height specified to match the scale of the lantern
  • Bar configuration designed for the proportions
  • White, anthracite grey or any RAL colour
  • Internal and external colours can differ

Slim Bars — Maximum Light

The visual quality of a roof lantern depends heavily on the bar width. Wide, clunky bars break up the glass area and reduce the amount of light entering the room. The aluminium systems we fit have the slimmest possible bar profiles consistent with structural integrity — giving you the most open, light-filled result.

  • Thermally broken aluminium bars — slim and structural
  • Double or triple glazed units as standard
  • Self-cleaning glass option — reduces maintenance
  • Georgian bar or plain glass options available
  • Anti-glare and solar control glass options

Weatherproofed for Life

The most common failure point on a roof lantern is the junction between the lantern upstand and the flat roof membrane. A lantern that leaks is not a lantern fault — it is an installation fault. We specify the correct upstand height, work correctly with the existing flat roof membrane, and seal the perimeter to a standard that will not fail.

  • Correct upstand height specified for the flat roof type
  • Perimeter sealed to the existing flat roof membrane
  • Structural fixings into the roof structure — not just the deck
  • All fixings hidden and weather-sealed on completion
  • 10-year written guarantee from A1 on every installation

FAQs

Roof Lantern Questions

What sizes do roof lanterns come in?

Roof lanterns are made to measure — there is no standard size. The minimum practical size is around 1000mm x 1000mm. There is no upper limit on size, though very large lanterns (over 4m in any dimension) require careful structural assessment of the roof. We advise on appropriate proportions during the free survey.

Can a roof lantern be fitted to any flat roof?

Most flat roofs can accept a roof lantern provided the existing structure can support the additional load and the opening can be correctly formed. Older flat roofs with failing membranes may need attention before the lantern is fitted. We assess the roof condition during the survey and advise if any preparatory work is needed.

Do roof lanterns let in too much heat in summer?

A standard double-glazed roof lantern will increase solar heat gain in summer. If this is a concern, we can specify units with solar control glass that reflects a proportion of solar radiation while remaining clear. Self-cleaning glass with a solar coating is a popular combination.

Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern?

Adding a roof lantern to an existing flat-roof extension is typically permitted development. Installing a new flat-roof extension with a lantern may require planning permission depending on the size and position. We advise on this as part of your free survey.

What is the difference between a roof lantern and a rooflight?

A roof lantern sits proud of the roof surface with a raised framework and pitched glass panels — creating headroom below. A flat rooflight sits flush or near-flush with the roof surface and is more discrete. Both flood the space below with natural light; the choice depends on aesthetics, budget and structural headroom.

How long does roof lantern installation take?

A standard roof lantern installation takes one full day. The time is split between forming the opening in the roof structure (if not already done), fitting the lantern frame, and completing all weatherproofing and internal finishing.
