FAQs

Composite Door Questions

What is a composite door made of?

A composite door has a GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) skin bonded over a solid, insulated core — typically timber or foam. The result is a door that looks and feels like solid timber but never warps, splits or requires painting. The seal and locking mechanisms are built into a UPVC or aluminium sub-frame.

Are composite doors more secure than UPVC?

Yes. Our composite doors are PAS 24 security rated — tested to resist physical attack in line with police-endorsed security requirements. The solid core and multi-point locking system significantly outperforms a standard hollow UPVC door leaf.

How many colour options are available?

We supply from the CompDoor range — over 18 standard GRP colours including white, cream, anthracite grey, French grey, slate grey, duck egg blue, chartwell green, red, rosewood, golden oak, and more. Most panels are available in dual-colour options — a different shade inside and out, with a unique woodgrain texture on selected finishes.

Can I choose my own glass design and hardware?

Yes. We carry an extensive range of decorative glass panels, from plain and frosted to traditional leaded designs and contemporary geometric patterns. Hardware — handles, letterboxes, knockers — is available in chrome, gold, black and satin finishes.

Do I need planning permission for a new front door?

In most cases, no. Replacing a front door is generally permitted development. Listed buildings and some conservation areas may have restrictions — we advise on this as part of your free survey.

How long does installation take?

A single composite door replacement typically takes half a day. We prepare the frame, set the door, adjust all locks and hinges, seal and finish — and test everything before we leave.
