Aluminium Windows

Aluminium
Windows

Slim frames, any RAL colour, thermally broken. The right choice for extensions, new builds and any property where how the window looks matters as much as how it performs.

When the Window
Is Part of the Architecture

Aluminium windows are specified where the appearance of the frame is as important as its performance. On a contemporary extension clad in timber or render, slim anthracite frames transform the elevation. On a full-house replacement on a 1930s semi, they give a premium, characterful finish that white UPVC cannot match.

Will and Sam measure every opening precisely, work with you on colour and configuration, and install to the tolerances that aluminium requires. The result is a window that looks exactly as intended and performs for decades.

Why Aluminium

Three Reasons to
Specify Aluminium

Slim Sightlines — More Glass, Less Frame

The defining advantage of aluminium over UPVC is sightline width. Aluminium is structurally stronger, so the frame sections can be made significantly slimmer while maintaining rigidity. The result is a window that maximises the glass area and transforms how light enters the room.

  • Frame sections 30–40% narrower than equivalent UPVC
  • Structural rigidity even at large format sizes
  • Cleaner, more architectural appearance
  • Pairs beautifully with timber cladding and render
  • Available in casement, tilt & turn and fixed-light formats

Any RAL Colour — Full House or Feature

Aluminium windows are powder-coated to any RAL colour during manufacture — not a surface coating applied on site. Anthracite grey (RAL 7016) and black (RAL 9005) are the most requested, but warm greys, sage green, charcoal blue, and fully bespoke RAL options are all available.

  • Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016) — the most popular choice
  • Jet Black (RAL 9005) for architectural projects
  • Any bespoke RAL colour to match your scheme
  • Internal and external colour can differ if required
  • Powder-coat finish will not chip, fade or peel

Thermally Broken — No Cold Bridging

Early aluminium windows had a terrible reputation for condensation and heat loss because the inner and outer aluminium profiles were directly connected. Modern thermally broken aluminium windows have an insulating barrier separating the two — eliminating cold bridging and delivering energy performance comparable to UPVC.

  • Insulating thermal break between inner and outer profiles
  • No cold bridging — no condensation risk on the frame
  • Double or triple glazed sealed units as standard
  • A-rated energy efficiency on all standard configurations
  • 10-year manufacturer guarantee on frames and glazing

FAQs

Aluminium Window Questions

Are aluminium windows more expensive than UPVC?

Yes — aluminium windows cost more than UPVC, typically 30–50% more on a like-for-like basis. The premium reflects the material, the manufacturing process, and the significantly slimmer sightlines you get in return. For extensions, new builds, and properties where the window appearance matters, most clients consider it excellent value.

Are aluminium windows energy efficient?

Modern thermally broken aluminium windows are A-rated for energy efficiency and perform comparably to UPVC. Earlier aluminium windows (pre-2000) were not thermally broken and were poor thermal performers — but these are very different products.

Can aluminium windows be any colour?

Yes. Aluminium profiles are powder-coated during manufacture to any RAL colour. The coating is baked on — not painted — so it will not chip or fade over the lifetime of the window.

How long do aluminium windows last?

Aluminium windows typically outlast UPVC — frame lifespans of 40–60 years are realistic when correctly installed and maintained. The frames do not warp, rot or discolour, and the powder-coated finish requires no maintenance beyond occasional cleaning.

Do you fit aluminium windows on period properties?

Yes, though it requires careful consideration of style and proportions. Anthracite grey aluminium casements are very popular on 1930s semis. We advise on appropriate styles during the free survey.

Can I mix aluminium windows with UPVC or other materials?

Yes — a common approach is aluminium for any new extension or rear glazing, retaining UPVC on the existing house. We can advise on how to make a mixed specification look coherent.
